Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge is a Must Have!

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge is a Must Have!

Today I’m looking at Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. These are amazing in about 1,000 different ways! This is a drugstore brand of the “beauty blender.” They can be used to apply make-up either dry or damp. I use these mainly for foundation, concealer, and setting powders. I bought mine on Amazon for $6.99, but you can find them at Target and Walmart too. The great thing about this particular sponge is the different edges it has to blend—creating a smooth, professional finish. It has a point that can get into smaller areas around the eye. The pointed side is also great for covering a small break out. The flat side of the sponge can be used to tap on foundation and powders, but it can also be used for contouring. These […]

Makeup-Review-Too-Faced-Unicorn-Tears

A Shimmering Review: Too Faced Unicorn Tears

I bought this because…Unicorn Tears and iridescent shimmer light blue. Done! I mean come on! Unicorns! So…First Impressions-> I got home with this magic lipstick, and it sat on my counter because…well, iridescent shimmer light blue? I mean…what DO you do with that?! LOL! I tried it on its own and was not loving it…blue iridescent shimmer! I’m not sixteen, and my edgy punk rock days are behind me. IF that is you though – welcome to your lip dream! Never fear! I did find out it’s magic secret, and now I love it! The good news about Too Faced’s Unicorn Tears is that is very creamy, hydrating and conditioning. Unicorn Tears lipstick has fine bits of glitter. It has pretty packaging

Milani-Baked-Blush-is-Beautiful-and-Affordable

Milani Baked Blush is Beautiful and Affordable!

I recently bought the Milani Baked Blush at Walgreens. You can purchase it at CVS, Target, or online too, of course. This blush is supposed to be a dupe for Nars Blush in Orgasm. I love that blush, and this is close…but, not a dupe in my opinion. Milani’s Dolce Pink Blush is beautiful though, and much cheaper! So, there’s that. It comes with a little brush inside the case, but I rarely use the brushes included in makeup products. In case you missed our recent article on which makeup brushes you really need (on a budget), click here! Milani Baked Blush in Dolce Pink is a highly pigmented, long-wearing, pink blush with a plum base. I think it would look great on just

Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer Review

Full Product Review of Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer

The Tarte Maraca Creaseless Concealer has a mixed group of lovers and haters. I actually do like it, but it is very different in some aspects. So let’s dive into that… First, Tarte is a cosmetic company that leans toward the “healthy” side of things. This particular concealer is actually vegan friendly. As a company they are relatively “cruelty free”—except to beetles. They use those to achieve a carmine color (bright red) for some of their makeup products. Moving along…what is Maracuja? It is an oil made from the seeds of passion fruit and it’s an excellent emollient for our skin. Ooo…so exotic! The packaging for this product is so lovely and nods toward the green side of life. I’m sure you know by now

simple affordable conditioning hair mask

A Simple, Affordable Way to Condition Your Hair Weekly

Today I’m looking at the HASK Argan Oil Repairing Deep Conditioner Packette. I color … and curl … and straighten my fine hair on a regular basis. Because I color, curl, and straighten my hair on a regular basis, it needs some extra “love!” Repairing and restoring shine and strength is my M.O. for my hair. I love this Hask Argan Oil Repairing Deep Conditioning treatment because it hydrates my thirsty, damaged hair. The argan oil helps the product absorb into the hair shaft. It also smells awesome with notes of citrus.  I pick this up at Wal-Mart or Target and can get two treatments out of one package. I try to use this (or some type of) mask weekly. This particular one is inexpensive

Practical Tips for When Your Loved One is Terminally Ill

Practical Tips for When Your Loved One is Terminally Ill

When someone you love is very ill or dealing with a terminal illness it can be exhausting emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. There is so much to deal with, and it looms larger than you. Every. Single. Day. Friends at a law firm gave us one of the most helpful and thoughtful gifts when my mother was in her final months of battling cancer. It is a gift that I would have never thought to put together, but it “saved the day” on many occasions when I was dealing with the business that came with caring for my mom. First, let me state that I am not an attorney. These are documents that we found helpful in the care plan for my mother who was living with terminal cancer

Why Benefit Hoola Bronzing Powder is a Must!

Why Benefit Hoola Bronzing Powder is a Must!

Today I’m looking at Benefit Hoola Bronzing Powder. Beach in a box! This is a must have staple in my makeup tool box. Not even kidding friends! This is the best! This bronzing powder will give you that sun-kissed glow and contours your face like a professional makeup artist! I love this stuff! I was told about this product from an amazing makeup artist who regularly makes the stars look like … well, stars! Benefit has some of the best products, and they package them to look so cute! I love the packaging of Hoola. This is one of the very rare cases where I think a product’s included brush works like a dime! Swish brush over bronzer, tap off excess, and sweep across cheeks, chin, and

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Eye Gel-Cream Review

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Eye Gel-Cream Review

Today I’m looking at Neutrogena Hydro Boost Eye Gel-Cream. Disclaimer: my dermatologist got me started in Neutrogena land long ago. In general, I’m a fan of Neutrogena products, but I will try to be unbiased here with this new product. So … here goes. I love it! The buzzword used in this product is hyaluronic acid. I’m no chemist, but according to www.paulaschoice.com: “When it comes to skincare, hyaluronic acid and sodium hyaluronate can reduce the appearance of fine lines, promote younger-looking skin, and help create a healthier barrier. When these ingredients are combined with an anti-aging routine that includes gentle products and daily broad-spectrum sun protection, you’re stacking the deck in your favor for younger, supple looking skin!” So—that’s good! But … how

This Drugstore Foundation Is Worth a Try!

This Drugstore Foundation Is Worth a Try!

Today I’m looking at Maybelline’s Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation. In classic Ivory. This mousse-like foundation is best for normal or combination skin, and I’m not sure someone with oily or super dry skin would like it. It has a medium coverage that drys to a soft matte finish. Color matching with a drugstore foundation can be tricky, because there is no MUA (makeup artist) or test samples to help you pick a shade. So, I just do my best in the store. I save my receipt and the packaging until I am sure, and return and/or exchange until I find my right shade. Most stores will give you a full refund if you have your receipt and packaging. I am using the classic ivory right now. I have

Why I Use Simple Cleansing Micellar Water Daily

Why I Use Simple Cleansing Micellar Water Daily

Today I’m reviewing Simple Cleansing Micellar Water. Micellar Water has been around for a long time, beginning in France. Ooh la la! So chic! There are tiny oil molecules, called micelles, suspended in water that are attracted to dirt, oil, makeup, etc. … and they draw the lil’ nasties away from your face without a harsh stripping cleanser attacking your skin and drying it out. Your skin should feel hydrated after using a micellar water. Directions: Apply the water to cotton rounds and wipe away grit, grime, and makeup. I think it works great! I really love using Simple Cleansing Micellar Water to remove makeup or to freshen up a makeup-less face after exercising. I would like to add that this particular micellar water does

Maybelline New York Super Stay 24 Color 2-Step Lip Color

Today I’m looking at Maybelline New York SuperStay 24 Lipcolor (2-step system). I’m all in for a long-wearing lip color! The issue that people have with these are that they can leave your lips feeling dry, or can cause this kind of gummy ring to form inside your lips after wearing for a while. I haven’t experienced those issues with this particular lip color. It has a micro-flex formula that glides on easily, dries fast, and has an all day staying power. I’ve used this for a long time and I don’t have issues with crumbling, caking, fading, feathering, or transferring. Both of the two steps are in one convenient tube for carrying and application. In addition, it’s available in 30 long

5 Tips When Your Life Takes a Left Turn

5 Tips When Your Life Takes a Left Turn

Let’s be honest; there have been times in these last several years that I have been completely overwhelmed. I don’t always do change well and lately my life has been jam-packed with huge life changes: the good, the bad, and the ugly. I’ve had a tornado … or two, wrestled with insurance (Ugh!), become an empty nester (Gulp!), and gone through a car wreck that could have killed my husband but thankfully he was just injured (Yikes!). We’ve dealt with the loss of a job and regular income when it seemed surely the end of trouble would come. Death of dear friends, and watching as my own mother’s battle against cancer failed (Heartbreak!). Our challenges led to lots and lots of packing

My Thoughts on Maybelline Color Tattoo Concentrated Crayon

My Thoughts on Maybelline Color Tattoo Concentrated Crayon

Today I’m looking at Maybelline Color Tattoo Concentrated Crayon in 705 Pink Parfait. This is a creamy, super pigmented, convenient stick format of eye shadow. Sometimes I have an annoying allergic reaction to pink eyeshadows. My eyelids turn red, puffy, itchy, and kind of scaly. Once this happens I have to go without makeup for about four days for every day that I wore the pink offender. People that have this problem are often affected by purple eyeshadows too, but I don’t seem to have that problem. And … I don’t always have it with pinks. I’ve been told that the reason this happens is because of an allergic reaction to the crushed up shellfish in the product, or to the red dye in the

Why You Should Try Marc Jacobs Re(Marcable) Foundation

Why You Should Try Marc Jacobs Re(Marcable) Foundation

Today I’m looking at Marc Jacobs Re(Marc)able Full Cover Foundation Concentrate in Ivory 14. I am on a quest trying out new foundations. I don’t personally feel that there is one, perfect foundation for every single day and for every occasion, but I do like to check out new ones from time to time. I do not typically wear a full coverage foundation as a rule, but I do prefer full coverage for a more formal event. Also, full coverage foundations can tend to make a face break out, so I walk very carefully towards these. The other day I was wandering the aisles at Sephora, and I stumbled on the Marc Jacobs Re(Marc)able Foundation. It piqued my interest, but the price was a

Why I Love bareMinerals Tinted Mineral Veil

Why I Love bareMinerals Tinted Mineral Veil

I’ve tried it all, it seems. I love makeup and “girly stuff”! I’ll be sharing my product reviews with you and would love your feedback on what I should try, too! Today I’m looking at bareMinerals Tinted Mineral Veil. About eight years ago, bareMinerals makeup was all the rage! Remember the endless commercials? All of us who used it learned how to cope with a messy makeup area after every use. No matter how hard you tried, that powder left some fairy dust everywhere! But … we loved it, and so did everyone else! It’s still in makeup stores, but I don’t know many people who still wear it. I am ever loyal to the Tinted Mineral Veil though. It’s a sheer finishing powder

Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Waterproof Mascara Review

Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Waterproof Mascara Review

I’ve tried it all, it seems. I love makeup and “girly stuff!” I’ll be sharing my product reviews for you and would love your feedback on what I should try, too! Today I’m looking at Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Waterproof Mascara. I tried this both in waterproof and non-waterproof. The big picture: I really love the waterproof, but do not like the non-waterproof. Both formulas lengthen, volumize, and separate, but the non-waterproof bled and transferred under my lower lash line. Not my fav. This is a deal breaker for me; I need to cry and sweat with dignity. I did like the way it made my lashes look, which is why I bought the waterproof version. That was a game changer. This, in waterproof, is for the win for me!

Young-Love…-It’s-Not-So-Complicated

Young Love… It’s Not So Complicated

I had no brothers; therefore I didn’t get the inside scoop on what happens when younger dudes gather. I was very much a girly girl growing up. So, understanding how the guy mind pings and processes when he is interested in a girl was foreign to me. Imagine my shock and surprise when both of my babies turned out to be boys! It’s been a learning curve to say the least. Over the years I have learned a few things about how the male mind and heart works through observing my husband, my sons, and my son’s friends. I’m about to let you younger ladies in on a little secret you might want to know, and it just might answer that important question of “How do I know if he likes
