5 Easy Ways to Maintain Your Health

5-Easy-Ways-to-Maintain-Your-Health1

I am not a medical professional, but I have lived long enough to watch ladies, myself included, simply wear themselves out. We’re running and gunning, trying to get all things accomplished, and, as we do, we are almost always neglecting ourselves.

Here are 5 things I’ve learned about protecting your health so that you can keep your forward movement, well, moving forward.

1. Eliminate Stress.
And you say, “Yeah right, like that’s gonna happen.” You can’t relieve all stressors, but ladies, if we are honest we can relieve the unnecessary ones. You do not have to do everything for everyone with perfection as your goal. Choose the best things, based on your priorities, and give yourself a break.dear-stress_lets-break-up-fbig

2. Quit Dieting.
I’m not saying we won’t ever find ourselves in a season of life when we need to shed a few pounds. When I had my first child I gained 42% of my body weight and was surprised to find that it was me who gained the weight and not because I had a 22-pound infant. However, the perpetual dieting is unhealthy; just eat balanced meals, avoid what you shouldn’t, and add chocolate chip cookies when you need them.

3. See Your Doctor.
We take every other family member to the physician as needed, so don’t neglect yourself! Checkups and maintenance are good for your car, and they are good for you, too. It keeps everything running longer!

4. Get Sleep.
Well, at least do your best on this one. New moms, remember this too will pass. Moms of teens, get used to not sleeping until curfew. But every chance you get, ladies, get some rest.

5. Move That Body.
You may not be a cardio girl and you might not have time for spin class, but do what you can. Ride a bike, walk, turn on an exercise video in your living room—whatever works—just get that blood flowing.

Do what you can and don’t stress when you can’t. We just need to remember that to take care of everything we keep on our life list, we have to take care of ourselves.

Darlene, President of The Grit and Grace Project, is crazy enough to jump in the deep end then realize she may not have a clue where she’s landed. She has spent her adult life juggling careers in the music business, been an author, a video producer, and also cared for her family … some days drowning, other days believing she’s capable of synchronized swimming.
