Taking Heart, Even When Tragedy Hits

Taking Heart, Even When Tragedy Hits

These past few weeks have been overwhelming with the Orlando shootings, deaths of several officers and the attacks in France… It’s easy to go into fear-mode and become hopeless. Frozen, even. Yet, I find comfort in the fact that my King has said, “But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 NIV).

We sang a song last weekend at church that brought me to tears. Tears streaming down my face, it was as if my heart and my spirit were agreeing with this hopeful truth: there is One in control, One who will heal hurt, One who will defend the helpless, One who is both the Lion, the Victor, and the Lamb, the One who gave all.

“Oh who can stop the Lord Almighty?
Who can stop the Lord Almighty?
Who can stop the Lord?
Our God is the Lion, the Lion of Judah
He’s roaring with power and fighting our battles
And every knee will bow before You
Our God is the Lamb, the Lamb that was slain
For the sin of the world, His blood breaks the chains
And every knee will bow before the Lion and the Lamb
Oh every knee will bow before the Lion and the Lamb
And every knee will bow before the Lion and the Lamb
Every knee will bow before the Lion and the Lamb”
(The Lion and the Lamb, by Leeland Mooring, Brenton Brown, Brian Johnson)

He will right wrongs, bring justice to injustice and peace where there is none.
