Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer Review
Dr. Zoe Shaw, A Year of Self-Care

The Tarte Maraca Creaseless Concealer has a mixed group of lovers and haters. I actually do like it, but it is very different in some aspects. So let’s dive into that…

First, Tarte is a cosmetic company that leans toward the “healthy” side of things. This particular concealer is actually vegan friendly. As a company they are relatively “cruelty free”—except to beetles. They use those to achieve a carmine color (bright red) for some of their makeup products. Moving along…what is Maracuja? It is an oil made from the seeds of passion fruit and it’s an excellent emollient for our skin. Ooo…so exotic!

The packaging for this product is so lovely and nods toward the green side of life. I’m sure you know by now that there are people who study us intensely in order to see what appeals to us and what makes us feel happy and pampered by just a glimpse of the product. Tarte Cosmetics takes you onto that road swiftly! As long as you know that—enjoy the ride. I know I do. Pamper me! My only con when it comes to the packaging is that the shade name is so hard to find. It’s written in black print on top of the dark purple tube placed on the back side of the product near the top. It’s almost impossible to find, and that frustrates me a wee bit.

The formula for Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer is different from most of the concealers I have used in the past. It is a thick, sticky, kind of tar-like consistency, very opaque, very pigmented, waterproof, and full coverage concealer. There are 14+ shades to pick from. A little goes a long way with this one.

Use a fraction of a pea-sized amount (on your ring finger) of the Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer. Take the same finger from the opposite hand and tap your two fingers together to kind of work the concealer into an easier form to apply. It is not fast drying, and it’s easy to blend. I tap, pat, and press into the area under the eye that I’m “concealing.” Bye-bye dark circles! I kind of make an inverted triangle shape when applying. I just tap and press (no pulling or tugging) with my ring fingers until it sort of melts over your skin. Sometimes I will use a Beauty Blender to blend out the edges. This product is actually quite oily. Alert! Alert! If you have oily skin you may not love this. It might melt right off you. I think the oil actually helps it rest on top of your skin to keep it from sinking in. Either way—using a light powdering of translucent powder pressed on top of the Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer is pretty much required. Concealers can be a little aging by the end of the day. I have pretty good luck with this one performing well, but it must be powdered to mattify it up and ensure staying power. If you have more mature skin, be careful when applying your powder—it can have a tendency to look crepey. When I over-powder, I just use a dampened cotton Q-tip and lightly brush it over the powder then follow it up with a little light Beauty Blender action.

A little goes a long way with this one.

I give Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer a 3.5 out of 5. It isn’t my “holy grail” favorite, but it isn’t my worst in the land either. I like it, and use it. I do think it is a little oily and shiny for my personal preference, but I do still use it. It is long-wearing, so that is a huge plus for me. I do think you should try it in store (or get a sample from Ulta or Sephora) before purchasing. This will be a big hit for some, and a big miss for others.

Oh! Does it crease? I actually don’t find any creasing when I use it. That’s a huge plus!

Extra bonus tip: Makeup Artists will color match you at the store where you purchase Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer. That is helpful because you do want to brighten your eye area but you don’t want to look like you’ve been wearing sunglasses while tanning and have walked away looking like a panda bear in reverse. Guilty!
