3 Morning Health Rituals to Try Right Now

One of your liver’s jobs is to break down fat and produce energy. It also takes substances, such as estrogen and BPA, and processes them so that they can be removed from your body when you use the bathroom. When you have excess toxins and hormones in your body, which is very common in this day and age, your liver can’t keep up. This can cause your body to hold onto excess weight.

So, to keep my liver clean and working properly, I have 3 steps that I follow every morning:

1. Oil Pulling.

This is an ancient Ayurvedic practice that aids in detoxing your mouth and body and also keeps your gums and teeth extremely healthy. Take about 1 tablespoon of coconut or sesame oil and swish it around your mouth and through your teeth for about 10-20 minutes. Spit it out in a trash can or outside to avoid clogging your drains and then rinse your mouth thoroughly with warm water. (Hack, even five minutes will give you worthwhile benefits!)

2. Warm water with lemon.

While I’m swishing, I heat up some water and squeeze lemon juice into a mug to sip before I eat or drink anything else. This is one of the gentlest and most effective ways to cleanse the liver.

3. Smoothie with Chia seeds.

Next, I make a smoothie with greens, berries, veggie protein powder, and chia seeds! These magical little seeds form a gel-like substance around them when wet and remove excess hormones from your body on their way out.

Other ways to help your liver are by taking milk thistle (a very cheap supplement that aids in cleansing your liver) and increasing your fiber intake. Legumes and green, leafy vegetables are great sources of fiber. Without fiber, you can end up with excess estrogen which strains the liver and hinders it from being able to burn stored fat for fuel or flush toxins.
