Poiema (Pronounced poy-ay-ma): A Greek word found in Ephesians 2:10 meaning God’s handiwork, masterpiece, or designed with a purpose and intention.)
—
O’ Lord, were you there when she was just a doe,
unsheltered, without guise?
Not yet wary of the open meadow,
the hunter crouched and prowled, his teeth dripped with anticipation.
O’ Lord, were you there when she lifted her head?
Her brown-grey fur twitched,
her ears searched, and sensed your presence.
A broken rib she was not.
O’ Lord, you were there.
You were the voice of Love,
and she heard you call to her, “Poiema.”
Your pearl, your masterpiece.
O’ Lord, you are there.
To lift a downcast soul, lay fresh grass for harbor,
and breathe courage into the heart of the hunted.
O’ Lord may she rejoice in you,
again, and again, for you are near,
and she is yours, created to walk in your truth,
to know your ways, to bring you glory.
